Sleeping Ava!

Ava is SO close to rolling over from her back to her tummy. (All 3 can roll over from tummy to back.)  So close in fact, the only thing holding her back, literally, is her little arm. She can't quite figure out how to tuck it in close enough to her body that allows her to roll over....except of course when she is swaddled. This is fantastic, except, now she is rolling over when she is swaddled and that is not so great and not so safe....so we had to say goodbye to the swaddle for Ava tonight.  She was pretty drowsy when I laid her down and usually (when swaddled) she will drift right off to sleep, but tonight she woke right up. I decided it was as good of time as any to start teaching her to soothe herself back to sleep and to fall asleep in her crib without being swaddled....sooooooo.....

I let her cry about 20 seconds...went in and gave her a pacifier and rubbed her back...walked out. She lasted about a minute and then cried. I waited about 30 seconds and did the same again. She lasted a bit longer. You get the point, but it only took about 5 tries and waiting only 1 minute 15 seconds of her fussing until she got the point...that I'm really right outside her door, she really is ok, and that she should really just go to sleep. She, along with Anna and Alexis (both still swaddled) have been soundly sleeping since 8pm tonight. I'm anticipating getting up several times tonight to go in and soothe Ava since she isn't swaddled, but it seems like she is fine with just a little bit of love and rub on her back and she falls back asleep.  I really hope the other two catch on as quick as Ava seems to be. I could in fact, be jinxing myself by saying all is well at the Thornhill house already, but she really did catch on quick...good thing too because I hated hearing her cry for even that minute...but it will be well worth it if she can fall asleep by herself un-swaddled.

The girls were all doing what I considered to be STTN (Sleeping Through The Night), but we were so inconsistent with what time their last bottle was that bedtime varied by 2 hours. So after a week of really being consistent with their bedtime routine, the girls are all starting to go to sleep between 7:30-8pm and wake up anytime between 4am-6am. I consider this a HUGE success...especially, since ALL 3 are doing it together! YEA GIRLS!!!  and Yea for Mommy and Daddy getting a little extra shut-eye...now if I just wasn't so addicted to this blog, maybe I could get to bed earlier than midnight.

I love a clean house!

Wow! I just need to mention how much I love a clean house! It is certainly one of the things I have missed the most since December. My mom and sister were so helpful and came over to clean several times when I was on bed rest and my mom helped clean a few times since the girls have arrived, but it's just not the same as when I can clean it myself. Not that they didn't do a great job, but I actually LIKE to clean. I know, I know..I'm nuts, but really, I get a lot of satisfaction out of cleaning and organizing things so not being able to deep clean my house myself since December has been hard. I've cleaned it here and there, but not really up to my usual standards.

So even though I spent nearly 13 hours today and I am still not done, my house is almost clean. At least it is getting close. My mom was nice enough to come over today to watch the girls so I could focus on cleaning. So now you are asking: "Marie, how did you spend 13 hours cleaning and you still aren't finished?"  Well, faithful blog reader of mine, here's how: I would get distracted when 2 or more were crying at the same time and wanted to help my mom, so I would stop cleaning and feed one or cuddle or just stop for some play time throughout the day. My dad brought lunch for us around 1pm, so we had to stop and eat of course and then we had our bedtime routine tonight when Jeff got home from work, so that took a little time too. (see my other post coming soon on a new breakthrough for sleeping habits).

Now tomorrow I can pick up the cake (oh, I forgot to mention the main motivation for cleaning....the girls are getting baptized on Sunday! Yea!  So, of course I needed to clean!) So back to tomorrow...I need to pick up their cake, we're having 2 screen doors installed in the morning, I have to chop up all of the veggies and fruit, clean the kitchen and do last minute cleaning throughout the house and then set up the house for guests and label all of my dishes. (no this is not some Amelia Bedelia story....I label all of my dishes for what will be served in them at all of my big family dinners and entertaining events and also lay out where things will go...you know, like what table will have drinks and dessert and where the main food will be etc. Jeff still makes fun of me for it, but secretly I think he digs it too, since it really makes planning a breeze and also the event day is much less hectic. Besides, my mom and sister will be helping to get out the food so I can enjoy the day with the girls, and this way they won't need to ask what to put things on/in/where/etc.....it will all be laid out for them....yes, I know I am crazy. And yes, I know you are secretly glad you aren't my mom or sister and have to put up with my craziness. I can respect that. :)

Have a great weekend everyone....hopefully I will have some amazing baptism pictures and video to share with all of you on Monday or sometime next week!

Nighttime assistance!

My sister and my nephew Thomas stopped by last night with some clothes for the girls and ended up helping with the nighttime routine while Jeff was finishing up some work. Thomas had Anna to sleep even before her bath...check it out! :)

Thanks for your help Tammy and Thomas and also for the fun clothes!

BUMBOS!

We got our Bumbo's delivered last week and the girls are really sitting well in them. They weren't quite sure about them at first, but now, they think it is pretty funny to sit in front of the mirror and just take in their beauty. he he he...what have I started?

New things!

Speaking of new things....we bought a video camera last weekend so I can start posting some videos of the girls too. I am hopeful that I have a couple of minutes to learn all of the gadgets on it and how to edit video on the Mac this weekend. But Jeff has a full list of things we need to accomplish this weekend, so I might not get the chance.....who does he think he is.....ME????  I'm usually the one with the list of tasks. :)  Boys and their toys.   Hey, I figure if we can keep Daddy happy, then the rest is easy!  So if that means I am cleaning a motorcycle this weekend so he can finally sell it, then by all means, the house can wait and bring on the chrome!  I actually like to help detail it. I know, I'm nuts.

So look for videos in the near future! I already have one of Ava trying to "crawl" after Bailey the cat! Very cute of Ava....not so much for Bailey.

And it wouldn't be right if I didn't thank our friend Keith for politely chewing my butt out for not having a camera yet...he's right...we don't want to miss this stuff. So thanks Keith!
Also, my mom and dad were very encouraging of getting one and helped pick it out. Thanks guys!

So, What do you think?

Well, I finally got a second to play around with scrapblog.com as suggested by my friends Katie and Rachael (they always have the coolest headers at the top of their blog and have inspired me to do the same...it just took me a while to do it.) I even edited one of the girls photos to put on it. I know, I know...not a big deal for all of you tech savy folks (which normally, I'm not too bad), but for me, this whole web, photos, videos etc. is all new to be playing around with so I'm trying to learn some new things and what works best. I am pretty happy with how it turned out, but I'm sure I'll be playing around with a few more now that I know how to do it. :) What do you think of this one?

Happy Father's Day!

To Jeff,
aka: Father/Daddy/Husband/Friend/our Rock

I hope you enjoy your first Father's Day! You may say it is a just another day, but it is so much more. It is YOUR day!  It is a day to celebrate how much you mean to all of us and how lucky the girls are to have YOU as their dad and how lucky I am to have YOU as my husband. You are truly the rock of our family and keep us going strong. What would we do without You?

The girls love when you snuggle with them and hold them close. When you talk to them about all of the fun things they will get to do when they are older and when you play with them. Not sure they have quite figured out what to do when you give them the weasel (he tickles their cheeks with his goatee. :)  but they love it!  It amazes me how they calm down when they hear your voice and I love to see them give you huge smiles when you get home from work. (God knows how happy I am to see you at the end of the day too. :) They sure do love their daddy. Boy am I am trouble when they are older and all end up being Daddy's girls! Who am I kidding, they already are.

Thank you for giving me 3 beautiful girls and continuing to walk down this path of life by my side...and at times carrying me through it all when I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I love you more and more every day and thank God for you and our family.
I love you! Happy Father's Day!

ps...I took the girls' pictures on Friday and put them in a double sided frame that has 3 picture slots in a row. On one side it has the We Love Daddy poses and on the other it has Happy Father's Day like below. It turned out pretty cute so I thought you all would enjoy seeing the pictures too. Happy Father's Day!

Shopping...ALONE!

So yesterday I took the girls down to OSU and we met Jeff and his boss for lunch. After that I survived my first shopping trip....ALONE! I took all 3 girls to Babies R' Us and it went great! I have decided that I can get out with the girls by myself as long as the store has shopping carts. I just kept the girls in their car seats and put two seats in one cart and then the 3rd seat (it ended up being Alexis since she was awake) in another cart. I pushed Anna and Ava's cart and pulled Alexis' and actually had room in her cart to load up on diapers and wipes. PERFECT!  It's a small milestone, but huge accomplishment in my book. Watch out Target...here we come! :)

They didn't feel like cooperating on picture day, but for documentation purposes...here are the girls at 3 months!

GREAT Visit!

Last Friday, my Aunt Melissa brought my Grandma and Grandpa down to meet the girls for the first time. We had a wonderful visit and the girls got their first pictures with Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Hagen. My cousins also got to meet the girls and we snapped some nice 4 generation pictures. The girls were pretty happy the entire time and seemed to enjoy themselves.

Our big girls!

Yesterday I took the girls to the Dr. for another round of vaccines. (Instead of getting them all at 2 months and 4 months, we decided to spread them out a bit so they don't get so many shots all at once. I still think it is a lot all at once--3 shots yesterday, one in each leg and one in the arm--but I know in the long run, it is for their protection.)  The girls did NOT like their shots this time. Last time they all screamed for about 30 seconds max and this time it took quite awhile to calm Anna down. The other two cried more than last time, but not nearly as bad as Anna. She bled so bad in her legs that the nurse had blood all over her scrubs and it got on Anna's outfit. Poor baby....but she was a champ and felt better after I held her for awhile. Ava went right back to sleep after her shots and Alexis cried, but I think it was only because Anna was crying so much. It was kinda sweet actually that she was feeling bad for her sister. Not so sweet when they do that in the middle of the night, but it was sweet at the Dr's. office. :)

The Dr. said they all looked great and are right where they need to be. Here are their updated weights:

Anna
10 lbs 9.5 oz

Ava
10 lbs 3.5 oz

Alexis
10 lbs 4 oz

That's right, you read it correctly....Alexis has passed Ava this month!  She is no longer the smallest, even though she will always be my little baby!  I was expecting this since we could really notice Alexis packing on the weight and really guzzling down her bottles.  Also, since Ava struggled this past month with reflux and didn't want to eat as much, I knew she was probably not gaining like the other two. She is now feeling much better and has really picked up her eating since we got her medicine. Regardless, the Dr. said all are gaining appropriately and doing fine. So yea for 3 healthy girls!!!

3 months old! (yesterday)

So the girls are now 3 months old, can you believe it?  In some ways it has flown by and in other ways, I can't believe it's only been 3 months since we were blessed with these little wonders! I will be taking them to the pediatrician tomorrow so I'll try to update soon on their current weights and measurements.

I haven't had a chance to get any really good pics of them for their 3 months shots...hopefully this weekend, but here are a few from last week.  Their first skirts!!!!
